How NAFDAC busted an illegal alcohol production factory in Lagos Island worth ₦200 Million Naira
In Lagos Island, Lagos State, NAFDAC detected and shut down an illegal facility engaged in the production of alcoholic drinks.
Through diligent monitoring, officers identified and raided secret facilities producing alcoholic drinks in packing stores and rooms throughout the Oke-Arin market.
During the raid, a substantial quantity of materials and equipment was seized, including 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and pre-packaged beverages, a makeshift filtration system, a compact plastic mixing container, and a variety of packaging supplies.
Furthermore, three individuals – Mr. Ikenna Daniel Ndeka, Innocent Chike and Chukwu John – were taken into custody for their involvement in the illicit operation, which was found to be operating in contravention of regulatory standards and laws governing the production and distribution of alcoholic beverages.
The seized goods have been estimated to be worth a staggering N200 million naira, highlighting the scope and scale of the illicit operation. In light of this discovery, the agency is urging the public to exercise extreme caution when purchasing alcoholic beverages, as the authenticity and safety of such products cannot be guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing, with the suspects set to face prosecution upon its conclusion, pending the gathering of sufficient evidence to ensure a successful legal case.
The agency remains committed to protecting public health and safety, and will continue to work tirelessly to root out such illegal activities and bring those responsible to justice.
